Assateague Island National Park

I had the week off work, and had planned a beach camping trip to Assateague Island National Park. It is a barrier island off the southern coast of Maryland-Northern coast of Virginia. It is known for its remote beaches and wild horses. It is also a great place for sea kayaking and playing in the ocean waves. The saturday before we left it was over 95 degrees and had been dry and sunny all month long. Unfortunately the rain decided to come this week. Wendy wisely decided to bow out at the last moment using Lily as an excuse. I was all packed and decided to go with the boys, and knew we would have fun even if it did rain. Unfortunately it rained A LOT. But of course the boys still had a great time. They watched movies in the tent, and when the rain paused they would run out and play on the beach, and even went swimming and Boogie boarding a few times. They searched the beach for Horshoe crabs, which are Jacksons new favorite "animal". The visitors center had a touching pool and Jackson loved to play with them. We also saw a lot of wild horses which was fun. The boys loved playing outside and getting their dads undivided attention which is unfortunately often difficult with my work schedule. The boys enjoyed the trip, which was cut short due to the continuing rain. Hopefully we can get back to Assateague Island when the weather is a little better. It is a beautiful spot with abundant wildlife and natural beauty.
